The Cahaba River Bain’s Bridge Project
By Jackson Pruett, City of Hoover Economic Development Coordinator
The Cahaba, one of the most biodiverse rivers in the U.S., runs through the heart of Hoover, offering tremendous potential for economic development and quality of life.
In 2022, Hoover purchased the Bain’s Bridge property along the Cahaba (off the Old Montgomery Hwy) to revitalize the area and create new greenspace. This will include potential neighborhood commercial space and a small riverside park.
Hoover is working with a local development group on the commercial aspect, with an announcement expected by early 2025.
For the greenspace, Hoover will gather input from stakeholders over the next six months on desired public amenities like a kayak launch, nature platforms, or picnic areas. The city is partnering with the Cahaba River Society to protect the environment and improve access.
This greenspace is also a key component of the Cahaba River greenway/blueway project, with planning set to begin soon.
