Greenway Trail Study to Focus on Riverchase Business Park

Hoover City Council on June 8th, approved a plan to study the feasibility of adding new greenway trails in the Riverchase Business Park; more specifically a trail along the Cahaba River between U.S. 31 and Interstate 65 that would also include connectors to the Riverwalk development and Valleydale Road.

This is in line with the City’s comprehensive plan to give residents more access to the natural areas of the Cahaba River.

The city is also interested in expanding pedestrian walkways to connect with nearby jurisdictions. A trail connection to Valleydale would get the paths closer to Pelham, Oak Mountain State Park and parts of Shelby County.

According to the Hoover Sun, the study would “review existing site conditions, evaluate constraints and opportunities, develop trail alignment alternatives, prepare conceptual drawings illustrating potential improvements, analyze project impacts and develop estimates of probable construction costs.”

The $59,948 cost of the study will be paid for with a federal grant picking up $47,958 (80%) and Hoover responsible for the other 20%.

The study which is to be administered by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, would take about six months to complete.
